Going live
Going live takes the five steps below, once your integration works in the sandbox. In your code, only the API key, the base URL and your senders change.
You need the Owner or Admin role, or a custom role allowed to manage your team, compliance and developer settings.
Complete your compliance review
- In the app, open Settings › Compliance.
- Pick the kind of document, such as your business registration, and upload one that shows your business is registered.
- Choose Send Your Document. Its status changes to In Review.
We email you when it's Approved. Until then, you can't create live keys.
Get your own senders and codes
The sandbox's PSandbox, 1234 and *123# don't exist in live. Request your own, in Live mode:
| You want to | Request it under | Who approves it |
|---|---|---|
Send SMS under your name, such as ACME | SMS › Sender IDs › Request Sender ID | Ponitor and the networks |
Get SMS replies on a Short Code, such as 4455 | SMS › Short Codes › Request Short Code | Ponitor, then the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) |
Run a USSD menu, such as *144# | USSD › Codes | Ponitor, then the LTA |
| Send WhatsApp messages | WhatsApp › Accounts › Connect Account | You connect it yourself, with Meta |
We email you when each one is approved. See Sender IDs and Short Codes and Connecting a number.
Add money to your balance
Live sends and top-ups are paid from your account balance. Under Billing, choose Add Funds. A send that your balance can't cover is refused with 400, before anything is sent.
Create a live key
- Switch the top bar to Live.
- Open Settings › Developers › API Keys and choose Generate API Key.
- Copy the key. It's shown once.
The APIs you turned on under Subscribed APIs in Test mode are on for live keys too.
Change your configuration
Set your production servers to the live values:
export PONITOR_BASE_URL="https://api.ponitor.com"
export PONITOR_API_KEY="your_live_key"
Then replace PSandbox, 1234 and *123# in your code with your own Sender ID, Short Code and USSD code. Keep the sandbox values in staging, so you can keep testing without spending money.
If a live call is refused
| Status | Why | Fix |
|---|---|---|
401 | A sandbox key sent to api.ponitor.com, or a wrong key. | Use the live key with the live base URL. |
403 | Your compliance review isn't approved yet, or the API isn't turned on. | Check Settings › Compliance and Subscribed APIs. |
400 | The sender isn't yours yet, or your balance is too low. | Wait for the approval email, or add funds. |
