Connecting a WhatsApp number
To send from your own WhatsApp number, connect the WhatsApp Business Account it belongs to. You sign in with Meta in the app, then pick the account and number.
You need
- The app in Live mode. In the sandbox, you send from your team's sandbox WhatsApp number instead.
- A role that can manage WhatsApp numbers: Owner, Admin, or a custom role with Manage WhatsApp Numbers.
- A Meta business account you can sign in to, with a WhatsApp Business Account. If you don't have one, Meta helps you make one while you connect.
Connect your account
- Open WhatsApp › Accounts and choose Connect Account.
- Sign in with Meta in the window that opens.
- Pick your business, the WhatsApp Business Account, and the number to use.
- Finish in Meta's window. The account and its number show under WhatsApp › Accounts.
You can connect more than one WhatsApp account to a team. Each WhatsApp account can be connected to only one team. Contact us if connecting fails.
Businesses, accounts and numbers
- A business is your business at Meta, set up in Meta Business Suite. Meta verifies businesses, not WhatsApp accounts.
- A WhatsApp account is a WhatsApp Business Account. A business can have more than one.
- A number is a phone number customers message you on. A WhatsApp account can have more than one.
Templates belong to a WhatsApp account. Send each one from a number in that account.
The number limit
| Your business | WhatsApp numbers allowed |
|---|---|
| Not verified | 2 in total |
| Verified, or a number with a messaging limit of 2,000 a day | 20 |
- The limit counts every number the business has, across all its WhatsApp accounts, including numbers it uses outside Ponitor.
- Meta raises the limit to 20 when it verifies the business, or when one of its numbers reaches a messaging limit of 2,000 a day.
- WhatsApp › Accounts shows each account's business and how many numbers it uses, such as 1 of 2 Numbers Used.
Meta describes the limit in Business phone numbers.
Get your business verified
Meta verifies a business in the Security Center of Meta Business Suite. You need full control of the business to start.
- Open Security Center and select Start verification.
- Enter the business's legal name, address, phone number and website. They must match your business registration exactly. The website must load over HTTPS.
- Pick your business from the records Meta finds. If it isn't listed, say so. Meta then asks for official documents, such as a business license or articles of incorporation.
- Confirm you're connected to the business. Meta offers email, phone, text, WhatsApp, or a record on your website's domain.
See Meta's guide, Verify your business in Meta Business Suite. Contact us if you get stuck.
